WHAT. A. WEEK.

So, we come into the apartment for the first time, go to our table and find that the Elder's left us each a pocket knife that said "you might need this :)" We're in the poorer neighborhoods and it's marvelous. Here is an accurate description of our week, from this morning: I was looking in the mirror and was thinking "wow, I didn’t get off all my makeup, my eyes are really dark," so I get make up remover to try and take it off. Yeah, it wasn’t makeup, it was just the bags under my eyes. Because we WORKED HARD THIS WEEK.

My greenie is Sister Rebekah Clegg from New Jersey and she is the most enthusiastic individual this world has ever seen! She’s A YEAR YOUNGER THAN ME!!! THAT’S CRAZY! I’M USED TO EVERYONE BEING OLDER. Life is so weird. Already met an elder from the high school class of 2016 and I hate my life.  I like training because I like greenie fire, they work so hard, mine right now is a pro already ;)

Our first day was full of miracles, one of the first doors we knocked on was a less active who goes "My dad sent you, didn’t he?" "Uh, no, we were just knocking doors and hit up this one" "Oh, really?" "Yup!" So we got her records in and met with them and they’re great and know everyone in my last area. I think the areas are connected, everyone knows everyone....

We found some great people to teach, including several Joseph Smiths, who said they are just so confused all the time by all the churches. "Kept from the truth because they know not where to find it....." And everyone here is AMAZINGGG!

We're teaching an investigator named S. that he elders taught last transfer and he is just the bee's knees. He used to be in a really bad place, and now he has the most powerful testimony of the atonement and how it got him out of that situation and helped him to actually find happiness in his life. His last battle is with smoking, he went from 2 packs a day to just a few puffs a week! He's SO CLOSE and it’s been amazing to see how repentance can change lives

This area is completely different from everywhere I've ever served but I am loving it, and the ward is full of cute old couples who love to feed missionaries.

Sister Clegg had her first District Meeting on Friday and it started off with a bang! I'm sure many people have heard of the fire in Lake Isabella. Our District leader serves there and they couldn’t make it down so the meeting itself was a hot mess. And on the way to it we saw a woman and her daughter get hit by a car, so we had to stop and help.... they're fine, but cuts and bruises and lying on the street is NO fun. This whole week has just been crazy. She'll know what a normal mission is like soon enough!

I was reading in John 15 this week, where it talks about how Christ is the vine and if we're attached to it we'll bear good fruit. It was cool to think about because this is GOD's work, and HE'LL progress it and HE'LL help, so literally all we have to do is be worthy and work hard, stay close to the vine, and He does the rest! Living the gospel may be hard but it's so simple and I'm so grateful I get to share it with people!

I love the hymn How Firm A Foundation, just last week I decided it’s one of my favorite songs. Big fan. “Fear not I am with thee, oh be not dismayed. For I am thy God and will still give thee aid. I'll strengthen thee, help thee and cause thee to stand, upheld by my righteous omnipotent hand."  “When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie, My grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply. The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design, Thy dross to consume, thy dross to consume, Thy dross to consume and thy gold to refine.”

Ohhh, we saw the smoke from the fire up at Lake Isabella, 30 miles away. The missionaries had to come down to Bakersfield. The members up there are suffering and are in our stake so we talked about it in church. We might even go up soon to do service since it’s so bad. I feel like I know Kern Valley and Lake Isabella since Sister Bryan was there for 5 transfers and talked about it all the time.

Love it here, pray for Lake Isabella and the hood, I love you all have a great week!!

June 20, 2016

HI, so sorry I have no time whatsoever to write but UPDATES!

Sisters Liebelt, King, Wheeler, and Harmon at the
Lost Angeles Temple, June 2016
I've been released as an STL to, wait for it..... TRAIN!!!! I’M SO EXCITED!! I'll be going to the College Heights Ward on the east side of Bakersfield, my greenie’s name is Sister Clegg and I know nothing about her but I hear the area has a lot of potential, hallelujah ;) I already know people in that ward!  I’m picking up Sister Clegg today, even though transfer is tomorrow, so I’m special!  We’ll be getting her at the president’s house. I feel pretty good about this, I loved being an STL but I’m just sick of being that busy all the time, I’m ready for a break and to just focus on the work in my area.

Berkshire District, Bakersfield, CA, June 2016
I cried for 2 hours when I found out I was leaving Berkshire but ALL IS WELL, I’m so grateful for my time here and for everyone we met! This week was full of goodbyes but also miracles. O.’s cousin N. moved in with them and wants to be baptized, so we were able to teach her the first 2 lessons. The M. family threw me a birthday party since they knew it’s in a few weeks. I miss this place already

It’s not too hot yet, but it’ll be rough this week.....

Look up the Father’s Day Video, it’s great!

Saying Goodbye,
Berkshire,
Bakersfield, CA, June 2016
I listened to Battle Hymn of the Republic and this one line stood out to me, "as He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free." Sums up the mission perfectly, I love this opportunity and AGAIN I’M SORRY IT’S SHORT BUT I LOVE YOU ALL, I’LL LET YOU KNOW ALL ABOUT COLLEGE HEIGHTS!!

This week is not as hot as last week!!

Sister King and Sister & President Wilson,
whose mission ends on July 1.
Tehachapi, CA, June 2016
So sorry, not much time but this week was insane! We had 5 exchanges with the sisters in our stewardship, had lots of meetings, but the best one was our last interview with President and Sister Wilson! They'll be leaving on July 1st and I already miss them :(  We took an absolutely dreadful picture before they left, I apologize for my lack of sleep and inability to smile, ha ha.

But we got to meet with A. and O. and they're both not only doing well but their families are on track to go to the TEMPLE NEXT MONTH! AHHHHH!!  Too much excitement, oh my word. Baptisms are great, but the temple is the most important thing that can come from being baptized! AND I GET TO GO TOMORROW!! I haven’t been to the LA Temple since December!

West Bakersfield Sisters
June 2016
We found some pretty cool people this week, at one point we visited 6 investigators and only 1 decided to open the door for us but ‘TIS LIFE, we're on the hunt for the elect and those who have a desire to come closer to Christ so we can help show them how to do that! But tons of people give us water and Gatorade, they're big on "replenishing electrolytes" here!

Something I got to experience a lot this week was God’s love for others. Like, being a missionary is awesome, but it's only awesome because we get to help other children of our heavenly father understand that that’s who they are, children of a King. That they have divine potential and that there’s a guaranteed path for happiness, the search is over! The gospel is restored! I wish I could tell you more but alas, I must bid you adieu.

Just know that I love the Lord and He loves you. So much so that my mission president gave me permission to SEE MY SECOND MOM AND BROTHER WHO CAME UP FROM LA TO HAVE DINNER, IT WAS THE BEST THING EVER. (So, lunch with the Perls, we went to "Oh Noodles" and it was pretty good! They thought it was hot and dry, which it was ha ha. I gave Johnny a Book of Mormon and a pamphlet. Johnny has a new car and since this is the first time he drove it they might be naming it "Nephi" after it! Ha ha, we'll see though.   IT WAS SO FUN!!)

I love you all have a great day!

THIS WEEK WAS CRAZY!! Where do I even start???

Anabel's Baptism
Bakersfield, CA
June 2016
Ana got BAPTIZED on Saturday and confirmed on Sunday!! We met with them a lot this week and I've honestly never met anyone so excited and so prepared to be baptized!! She cried after the interview and laughed when she stepped out of the font and skipped away from the podium after she got confirmed. They also made fun of me for crying. So did President and Sister Wilson who came... but it was WORTH IT! She's only 10, it’s been so fun to work with her! She said she can’t wait for Young Women because it smells like flowers, and primary smells like chalk. We also taught them (and another family) the game Ninja and it got so intense we drew blood...... well, Sister Pincock accidentally scratched my hand. It’s crazy.

Enjoying the 108 degree weather
Bakersfield, CA
We found a great new investigator named R.!! His neighborhood felt a lot like Bishop, it was so wonderful :')  And this woman gave us a bag of ice there!! Couldn’t do much with it so we let it melt a bit and then poured it over our arms and legs.  It dried in like 10 seconds. But it felt nice while it lasted! We've taught him the first 2 discussions and he said that the thought of having a prophet on the earth gives him goosebumps and how the plan of salvation just "feels right." Plus he's been reading the Book of Mormon and said that it’s been helping him get through hard times! DUH!! That’s why we haaaave it. Man I love this gospel!!

The heat stinks, but it’s not AS bad as I thought. We are surviving the record heat, people do let is in a bit more but its way hot and will only get worse, lol. But, God gives us strength!!

Mission Leadership Conference
Tehachapi, California
We had Mission Leadership Conference this week and it was amazing!! They announced that we're getting, wait for it.... IPADS!!!!! Exciting, right? WRONG! They said that but it turns out to be an acronym. Introduce yourself, be Personable, Ask questions and Declare the gospel. It's just a way to make sure we don't get too robotic. The whole mission went into a moment of chaos. Sister Pincock and I gave a training on teaching repentance and baptizing converts. Sister Wilson related it to ourselves, how we can't teach repentance if we haven't experienced the power of the atonement in our own lives. We can’t help people come unto Christ if we aren’t diligently doing our best to do the same. The gospel is meant to be shared because it changes lives, what’s the point of having it if we aren’t doing anything with it?? That’s something that I’ve definitely noticed since I’ve been on my mission, the stronger my testimony is, the stronger my desire is to share it. This is eternal life, this is pure happiness, this is the path to get back to heavenly father! This is literally the BEST THING EVER AND WE HAVE TO SHARE IT BECAUSE ITS SO AMAZING AND I LOVE BEING A MISSIONARY AND I'M HITTING 11 MONTHS THIS WEEK SO I'M CURRENTLY TERRIFIED. But I’ll be okay, maybe. I’ve decided I’m never going home, if that’s allowed.

On exchanges with the Snow sisters, including
Sister Liebelt, Allie's trainer!
Snow, Bakersfield, CA
June 2016
We went on exchanges with the snow sisters (they’re serving in my old area) and I went out with sister Liebelt (my TRAINER!) and it was fantastic!!!! It was so funny, she said I've grown so much since she trained me, I actually feel comfortable speaking! And teaching! And leading discussions! You’d be surprised how much can change in 8 months :D  We were able to pick up a former investigator I taught a few months back and reset her with a date!! And she gave us a donut! And everyone gives us cold water because they feel bad for us!! Which strikes up conversation! Which lets us share the Restoration!! The heat is good for something!!

The smog is extra bad but the people are extra nice and this week will be full of MORE miracles!! I love you all, have an amazing week!!
